Installing and configuring Omi, from connecting a store to going live. This guide walks through every screen and what each one does.
Get connected
Omi installs from Shopify. Once the store is connected, a short onboarding covers terms, plan, and payment before you reach the dashboard, a few minutes in all.
Connect the store
Omi installs from the Shopify side, with no theme changes and nothing to copy over. The store connects on its own.
Omi reads in the whole catalog, with pricing, inventory, and collections included, so the agent has the full store to work from. The welcome screen confirms the connection before you go on.
Terms of service
The agreement between Omi and the store, in plain language, about two minutes to read.
The short version: you pay monthly, you can cancel any time, Omi owns its service, and you own your store. It is governed by Washington law. Accept it to continue.
Privacy policy
How Omi handles store and shopper data, in the same plain language.
The short version: Omi collects what it needs to run the agent, your store and shopper data stay yours, the work runs through the providers listed on the Security and data page, and data is never sold.
Pick a plan
Plans are priced by usage. The plan screen shows the current allowance for each plan and how usage is counted.
Starter, Pro, and Scale include different allowances, with custom terms for Enterprise. Starter is billed monthly. Pro and Scale offer monthly or annual billing.
Add payment
Add a card to finish. Nothing is charged until the free setup window ends, and you can switch or cancel before then.
Billing runs through Stripe, so Omi never sees the full card number, and the plan renews automatically after the first charge.
Setup complete
The account is set up and the store is on its plan.
From here you move into the dashboard, where the Setup and Editor tabs cover what the agent knows and how it behaves.
Set up the agent
The Setup tab is where you tell Omi about the store. Four sections, then you launch, with the agent previewed live on the right as you fill things in.
Store details
Start with the basics about the business. These fill the agent’s header and its Contact Us card, the one a shopper sees when they ask how to reach you or when you are open.
- Store name and an optional tagline
- Address, phone, and email
- Hours for each day, with any day marked Closed
Everything here grounds what the agent tells shoppers about the store itself.
Store policies
This is what the agent references when a shopper asks about a policy. Fill these in, in plain language:
- Shipping rates and timing
- Returns and exchanges
- Store FAQ
- Payment and security
- Policy links, pointing the agent at existing policy pages by URL
When a shopper asks how returns work or when an order will arrive, the agent answers from what you put here rather than guessing.
Customer support
Decide how support questions are handled. Choose one route:
- Connect Gorgias, your helpdesk
- Point to your own support email and support page
- Use Omi support, which routes questions to the Omi support page and handles them in the dashboard, rather than emailing the address in this section
Below routing, add custom responses: the common questions customers ask, each paired with the exact answer you want the agent to give. That way it handles store-specific questions in your words.
Launch the agent
Agent Deployment is the last step. Turn the agent on, and the toggle takes you to your Shopify theme editor to enable the Omi app embed.
This part matters: the agent only renders on the storefront once the embed is on there, so enabling it in the theme editor is what puts Omi live. Back in the dashboard, Launch Agent turns it on for shoppers.
The embed is set per theme. If you switch or duplicate themes later, re-enable it on the new one.
Shape the agent
The Editor controls how the agent looks and behaves. Four sections, with every change shown live in the preview on the right.
Style
Set the agent’s look on your site. None of this changes what it knows or does.
- Shape: round or square
- Appearance: light or dark
- Type: Omi’s own, or your storefront’s font for a seamless match
- A logo for the header, with a separate dark-mode version
Conversation starters
These are the first prompts a shopper sees when they open the agent. Each set has:
- Two direct prompts, the kind a shopper taps to start, like a heavyweight hoodie or a first-date outfit
- One category prompt that opens a choice, such as the occasion
Four sets rotate so the opening does not feel static, and you write them in the store’s voice.
Contextual triggers
This is where the agent adapts to where a shopper is on the site. Each one is a toggle, so you turn off anything that does not suit the store.
- Homepage: surface what a shopper was just looking at, or flag an active sale
- Collection pages: prompt for a budget or an occasion, then filter to fit
- Product and cart pages: their own prompts as a shopper builds an order
Merchandising
Merchandising controls which products the agent puts forward, so its suggestions stay on-brand and commercial.
- Default ordering: bestsellers, newest, a manual order, or best-match relevance
- Exclude items that should never surface, like gift cards, wrapping, or packaging
- Boost collections to favor when they fit a request, like a hero line or a seasonal push
After launch
Once the agent is live, the dashboard shows how it is doing, with Conversations and the support area holding the detail.
Analytics
Analytics shows what the agent did over a period you choose. The tiles cover:
- Attributed revenue, against the previous period
- Assisted order value, versus the store average
- Engagement and conversion rates
- Total messages, and catalog coverage, how much of the catalog the agent has surfaced
Below them, a per-shopper funnel runs from opened to messaged to saw a product to purchased, counting unique shoppers rather than events. Export any period for your own reporting.
Conversations
Conversations is the running record of every shopper the agent talked to. Each row is one session, showing what the shopper asked, the products the agent surfaced, and how the conversation ended.
Open any thread to read the full exchange, or search by product or question to find a specific one. This is the detail behind the Analytics tiles, one shopper at a time.
Tickets
When a shopper raises something the agent routes to support, it arrives here as a ticket. The list on the left holds every thread, filtered by status.
Open one to read the full exchange, reply from the dashboard, then mark it resolved or archive it. This is the inbox for anything the agent hands to support.
System status
System status, under Settings, is a quick health check on the connection behind the agent. It shows:
- Whether the store is connected and its catalog is synced
- How many products are indexed and available to the agent
- Whether the model running the agent is operational
Check it after a catalog change to confirm new products have been picked up, and use Refresh to pull the latest.
Account and billing
Account and billing, under Settings, holds the plan and the money side:
- The current plan and price
- Usage against your plan allowance for the period
- The card on file, and a full invoice history
From here you can change plans, update the card, or cancel. The other Settings sections cover importing data, language, notifications, staff access, and system status.
Getting help
Need a hand at any point, Need help sits in the top corner of the dashboard, on every screen. Messages get a reply within one business day.
